It’s that time of the year when the harsh winds outside coupled with the dry heat indoors creates a perfect storm for dry eyes. You can get this condition at any time of the year, of course, but it’s just more prevalent now. Here at Eye Express, we have remedies so that you don’t have to be uncomfortable nor have any hindrance to your vision.
The primary way that dry eyes develop is that you are not making enough tears to sufficiently keep your eyes lubricated, or the composition of your tears is not of the quality needed. It’s worse in the autumn and winter, and can be exacerbated by exposure to smoke, and from wearing contact lenses. There is no danger to your eye health, and least in the long term, but why put up with it? Turn to our South Bronx eye doctor if you notice symptoms such as blurry vision, sensitivity to light, eye redness, a burning or stinging sensation in your eyes, tired eyes, or discomfort when you put your contacts in. Our South Bronx eye doctor will conduct a complete eye examination, and may also do special tests to measure the quantity and quality of your tears. As for treatments, the most common one is to use eye drops called artificial tears. They restore the necessary degree of moisture to your eyes. Get them at your local drug store. In more severe cases, you can get them in prescription strength from our office. Only in certain cases is surgery an option. It’s also a good idea to wear sunglasses or eyeglasses when out on windy days, keep away from smoke, and maybe get a humidifier for your home.
Our South Bronx eye doctor is always here to help. Reach out to us for an appointment to get diagnosis and treatment of dry eyes.
