Port Morris NY Optometrist

Diabetes has a relationship to your eyes, and it’s not a good one. Both type one and type two of the disease put the wellness of your eyes and also your vision at risk. But here at Eye Express, our Port Morris NY optometrist will help you to avoid the worst consequences that diabetes can have for your ocular health.

Anyone who has diabetes is prone to the eye disease called diabetic retinopathy. And the longer you are diabetic, the more likely it is for you to develop this condition. Because of this, our office recommends that you come in to be examined by our Port Morris NY optometrist on a yearly basis. This is something that is suggested for all customers, but it is all the more essential for those who have diabetes. It’s important to know that most common eye diseases do not reveal any noticeable symptoms in their early stages. And this is most certainly true of diabetic retinopathy. It can form and progress, all without you having any idea of its presence at all. By the time you do start to experience signs that are obvious, it is usually because the disease has become advanced. Any damage done or vision lost might be unrecoverable, so you should be sure to get checked out by our Port Morris NY optometrist, where early detection is associated with the odds for the best outcomes. Symptoms that are linked to diabetes include spots in front of your eyes (floaters), blurred vision, problems perceiving colors, and vision loss to any degree. In addition to working with you in conjunction with your primary doctor to regulate your blood sugar, if your eyes have sustained any physical damage, possible treatments will be discussed.

You can retain healthy eyes and optimal vision even in the face of diabetes. Just arrange an appointment to come in for an examination right now.

South Bronx Contact Lenses

Contact lens exams and fittings in South Bronx

South Bronx contact lenses

South Bronx contact lenses

At the office of Eye Express, our optometrists have been fitting specialty contact lenses for years and have seen some incredible changes in that time. It is very important that your South Bronx contact lenses are fitted correctly based on your prescription, eye shape, and specific needs. With many different styles of contact lenses offered to purchase at our store, it is best to inform yourself first about the contact lens fitting, as well as the various types of lenses.

First of all, a routine eye exam is not the same as a contact lens exam. For contact lens wearers, a contact lens exam is necessary to ensure the lenses are fitting both eyes properly and that the health of the eyes is not harmed by the contact lenses. If you wear or want South Bronx contact lenses, you will need a contact lens exam in addition to comprehensive eye testing. Our optometrist will perform special tests during a contact lens exam to evaluate your vision with contacts. One test, for example, will measure your eye surface to determine what size and type of contacts are best for you. With the results of the tests, our eye doctor can provide a contact lens prescription that is the right fit for your eyes. Once your exam is complete, it is time to decide which type of contact lenses offered at our optical store are best for you. We offer a comprehensive array of contact lenses to suit each individual patient’s needs including daily disposables, extended wear, soft lenses, and gas permeable contact lenses.

It is important to first consult our vision center on which style of contact lenses are best suited for your particular prescription, eye shape, and specific needs. If you would like to learn more specifically about the types of South Bronx contact lenses we offer, we recommend that you visit our practice’s main website to browse through some additional, detailed information that you might find useful. If you have any specific questions or concerns regarding contact lens fittings, or any of our other services, please do not hesitate to contact the staff here directly.

If you are thinking about getting new contact lenses, or need a current contact lens prescription, you will want to come and visit us at Eye Express. At our vision practice, our optometrist, Dr. Alan Vilinsky, will be able to provide you with an expert contact lens exam and fitting, or with a comprehensive eye exam. When you want to get a new pair of Bronx contact lenses, you will be glad that you came to our optical practice.

At Eye Express, patients are able to have a great contact lens exam and fitting, and then purchase contact lenses all under the same roof. It is very important that your eyes are thoroughly analyzed to make sure they are healthy enough to wear contacts, and to make sure that your new contact lenses will fit you precisely. A contact lens prescription not only gives information about the type of vision correction that you need; it also gives information about the shape of your eyes so that your new contact lenses will fit you correctly. When contact lenses do not fit your eyes precisely, the cornea can be damaged. At our optical store we make getting Bronx contact lenses easy since we offer one-stop shopping for our customers. Patients are able to have contact lens exams and fittings and then go on to purchase contact lenses all under the same roof. This saves our patients a lot of time in their busy schedules.

During a contact lens exam your eyes will be screened for many different eye diseases and disorders including: cataracts; glaucoma; macular degeneration; diabetic retinopathy; dry eyes; retinal tears; and other problems of the cornea, macula, and retina. Your eyes will also be screened for any type of refractive errors. If it is determined that you are nearsighted, farsighted, or have astigmatism, our optometrist will be able to provide you with an accurate contact lens prescription that will have you seeing clearly again. Our optometrist will also measure the curvature of your cornea as well as the size of your iris to make sure that your new Bronx contact lenses will fit your eyes precisely. At our optical store, patients can also purchase soft contact lenses that are for daily wear, disposable wear, extended wear, or will actually change the color appearance of your eyes. Glaucoma testing in the South Bronx

Bronx Optometrist

Regular eye exams with our Bronx optometrist, Dr. Alan Vilinsky, are important to keep prescriptions current as well as diagnosing common eye diseases. Early detection is always best for proper and thorough treatment and as experts at Eye Express, we pride ourselves on personal attention and educating all patients on common eye diseases. After cataracts, glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness worldwide. Glaucoma is caused by a number of different eye issues that result in gradual vision loss due to damage to the optic nerve.

There are two main types of glaucoma in adults: primary open-angle glaucoma and closed-angle glaucoma. Open-angle glaucoma is the most common form and occurs when the pressure inside the eye rises because of fluid backup. Over time, as this pressure builds up, it damages the optic nerve and results in permanent and irreversible vision loss. Closed-angle glaucoma is more rare and occurs when the drainage canals of the eye get blocked causing a rapid increase in pressure inside the eye. According to research and our Bronx optometrist at Eye Express, individuals at high risk for glaucoma should have a dilated pupil eye examination at least every two years. Our doctors use several tests to detect glaucoma and when proper testing is conducted, like the exams offered at Eye Express, not only can glaucoma be caught early on, but other vision threatening diseases as well, such as cataracts.

With cataracts, screenings are so important because cataracts can develop slowly with no pain or loss of vision and when detected early further damage may be avoided and treatment can begin. Our Bronx optometrist will begin by conducting a comprehensive eye exam that includes a cataract screening. A cataract is a clouding of the clear lens in the eye and makes it look as if you’re looking through a fogged-up window. Some signs that you should definitely have a cataract screening are increased eye strain, difficulty driving at night, irritated by bright lights, blurry or double vision, fading colors, and frequent changes in your eyeglass prescription.

Diabetes increases your risk of glaucoma and cataracts but can also cause the harmful eye disease known as diabetic retinopathy. As a leading cause of blindness, this is the most common diabetic eye disease in American adults. You may not notice any changes to your vision, if you have diabetic retinopathy, but over time it can get worse and cause vision loss. Our Bronx optometrist will perform a comprehensive eye exam which is the only reliable means of detecting diabetic retinopathy and other common eye diseases.

Eye Exams in the Bronx

Bronx Glaucoma Testing

Eye Exams Bronx

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of vision loss. Sometimes called the silent thief of sight, glaucoma can damage your vision so gradually you don’t notice any loss of vision until the disease is at an advanced stage. Glaucoma can be detected through eye exams in the Bronx by Dr. Alan Vilinsky. During this painless procedure, your optometrist will measure your intraocular pressure, inspect the drainage angle of your eye, evaluate any optic nerve damage, and test the vision of each eye. The best way to maintain your eye health and preserve your vision is to have regular and complete eye examinations with the appropriate level of diagnostic testing for glaucoma.

There are two main types of glaucoma: Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma and Angle-Closure Glaucoma. Though both are caused by increased pressure in the eye, the two yield different symptoms and levels of severity. Primary open-angle glaucoma is the most common type of glaucoma and causes peripheral vision loss. In an eye unaffected by glaucoma, fluid continually flows through the eye and exits through tissue known as the trabecular meshwork. With chronic glaucoma, this meshwork becomes blocked and fluid is unable to flow out of the eye. This excess fluid causes intraocular pressure to increase and presses against the optical nerve. While chronic glaucoma gradually builds up, angle-closure or narrow-angle glaucoma occurs suddenly and presents painful symptoms, such as headaches, nausea, eye pain, and increased sensitivity to light.

If you are diagnosed with glaucoma during your eye exams in the Bronx at Eye Express in the Bronx, we’ll attempt to control the disease with medications to regulate the amount of fluid produced by the eye. If medications cannot adequately treat your glaucoma, Dr. Vilinsky may suggest surgery to increase drainage flow. To learn more about glaucoma treatment options, come speak to our eye doctors at Eye Express!
